Historic Occasion: TCS to perform in ‘Jubilee 2024’

After a “challenging” rehearsal process made easier by the talents and skills of composer Lynsey Callaghan, the 800th anniversary of the arrival of the Dominican Order in Ireland is being celebrated in 2024, and the Tallaght Choral Society (TCS), a choir with a long history associated with the Dominican Priory, Tallaght, including having their rehearsal room situated there, is thrilled to be a part of this historic occasion.

Due to the support of four soloists and a separate chorus, the group will not be performing alone, which has also reduced pressure.

However, according to spokesperson Sean McBride, while it varies depending on the person, there is always a “level of anxiety” that everybody in the choir has their “own way” of dealing with, for example, going for a walk.

He goes on to state that since the choir is not as “exposed” as the soloists and they are all performing together in a group, it is not as stressful an experience.

They are eager and hoping to give an excellent performance, having been working towards this event since September of last year, particularly since Christmas.

Later this year, the choir plans to perform Faure’s ‘Requiem’ and ‘Requiem for the Living’ by Dan Forrest.

Sean states that they are planning to perform those pieces in November, but in a more local capacity; it will not be in the Helix but in the area of Tallaght.

Sean would like to thank Lynsey Callaghan for being a “very good” composer, the Dominican Order for inviting them to perform at its 800th anniversary celebration, the TCS committee, and Lynn Broderick for being an “energetic” chairperson.

TCS will be performing at the ‘Jubilee 2024’ in the Helix on April 14; tickets are on sale now, so don’t miss out!
