Historical tours of Lucan Demesne

GUIDED historical tours in the Lucan Demesne grounds will become a feature in 2023, after the Society for Old Lucan (SOL) confirmed the news.

The local history group posted a “huge thanks” on social media to the Italian Ambassador to Ireland, Ruggero Corrias and his family.

“SOL has been given permission to run regular guided historical tours of the demesne grounds for the public.

“We organised and met a core group of SOL members in October who are interested in becoming guides in 2023, and we had a test-walk in the grounds, which went well,” said SOL.

Since then, SOL members have received “excellent online training” from Sandra Murphy, Guide Supervisor with the OPW, that has “helped us in developing our stories, and information for our tours.”

“Jonathan Cully is working on a digital site map of the points on the tour, based on Joe Byrne’s original site map”, the group said.

“Many thanks to Joe for sharing this.

“We expect to run these tours every six weeks during the year (weather allowing) and some will be open for general booking, others will target local schools, clubs and groups.”

SOL sees this as an exciting opportunity to raise awareness of Lucan’s rich heritage and history.

SOL is open to everyone and free to join – email OldLucan@gmail.com to be added to a members mailing list where full details of projects are shared.
