Holohan biggest winner in Tallaght
PADDY Holohan (Ind) retained his council seat in Tallaght South and was also elected in the second LEA he ran in, Tallaght Central, proving his popularity continues to build.
It was a less successful election for the Green Party, however, with all of the party’s sitting councillors in Tallaght Central and Firhouse-Bohernabreena losing their seats.
There was also surprise when longstanding Tallaght councillor Cathal King (SF), who has been on the council for over 20 years, lost his seat.
He represented the Tallaght Central LEA when he was on the council, but in this election, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat in Tallaght South.
His party colleague Louise Dunne retained her seat in Tallaght South, as did Dermot Richardson (Ind), while first-time candidate Kay Keane (PBP) also secured a seat in the LEA.
The final seat in the five-seat Tallaght South LEA went to Baby Pereppadan (FG) who was re-elected, while his son, first-time candidate Britto Pereppadan (FG) was elected in Tallaght Central.
Longstanding independent councillor Mick Duff topped the poll in Tallaght Central, while Teresa Costello (FF) also retained her seat, while Jess Spear (PBP) was newly elected.
Kieran Mahon (Sol) lost his seat in Tallaght Central, as did Greens councillor Vanessa Mulhall.
In Firhouse-Bohernabreena, Mayor Alan Edge (Ind), Brian Lawlor (FG) and Emma Murphy (FF) were re-elected.
They will be joined in the five-seater ward by newcomers Sarah Barnes (FG) and Roisin Mannion (SF).
Lyn Hagin-Meade from the Greens lost her seat.
There was a low voter turnout overall this election, with just over 31 per cent of eligible voters going to the polls in Tallaght South.
The picture was only marginally better in the other wards, with just over 42 per cent of the electorate voting in Tallaght Central and almost 41 per cent in Firhouse-Bohernabreena.
