Homeless people’s tents burnt on waste grounds

TWO homeless people discovered their tents were burnt to dust last week, the charred remains containing most of their belongings.
Neither of the two, a man and a woman living in seperate tents, were inside at the time of the arson attack, which occurred last week on waste ground across the road from Ronanstown Garda station.

Cllr Lisa Kinsella-Colman (SF) has been working with the two people for a while, via a soup run she operates.
“I met these people about a year ago when they first came to me looking for help and have been helping them on a weekly basis since,” she said.
“Since I was co-opted into Deputy Mark Wards vacant seat in South Dublin County Council, I started trying to liaise on their behalf. Thankfully South Dublin County Council has offered these two people temporary isolation accommodation while this pandemic continues.”
Cllr Kinsella-Colman said she managed to secure a place for the pair in Finnstown House last week.
“One of them went back to collect a few bits from tents that held all their belongs to find someone had decided to burn their homes to ashes. Their sleeping bags, ground sheets, clothes, flasks, all supplied by us.
“It is more annoying, with people coming together right now. Did the person or persons who did this even check if anyone was inside at the time.
“I have sleeping bags and other stuff for them when they are back out, people have been helping out on Facebook as well, but the fear is once Covid is over, they will be back on the streets.”
