Hospital footpath closed until end of the month
By Mary Dennehy
DUE to construction work on the new Children’s Urgent Care Centre at Tallaght University Hospital, the footpath from the main entrance is closed until the end of September.
Anyone visiting the hospital in a wheelchair or on a mobility scooter will need to use the Luas Hospital stop entrance until the footpaths reopen.
People using a wheelchair or scooter are urged to use the Luas Hospital stop
According to a spokesperson for Tallaght University Hospital (TUH): “As you may have noticed there is a lot of construction work going on at TUH at the moment.
“To date it has not caused any disruption to accessing the hospital.
“Having said that due to some work in the next few weeks on road alignment, footpaths have to be closed.
“This means for anyone visiting or attending the hospital in a wheelchair or using a mobility scooter, the access point until the end of the month will be via the Luas Hospital stop.”
The spokesperson added: “The path from the main entrance will reopen at the end of September.
“Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
“The works will be completed as quickly as possible to minimise the inconvenience this will cause.”
The new Children’s Urgent Care Centre, which is being delivered as part of the new children’s hospital project at St James’s, is due to open in late 2020.
The unit will include urgent care for the treatment of minor injury and illness that requires prompt treatment but is not life threatening, and does not require a visit to A&E.
Children with minor injuries such as fractures, sprains, minor burns, small cuts and illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhoea and mild asthma should also go to the new centre – with the urgent care centre a walk-in, no appointment facility.
As part of the new national children’s hospital project, two urgent care centres are being developed at Connolly in Blanchardstown and Tallaght.
The unit in Connolly opened in July on a phased basis, and will provide services to children and young people in its local catchment area as well as those living in Dublin north city and county, and surrounding areas in Kildare and Meath.
The National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght University Hospital will remain open as normal until the new unit is opened in Tallaght – which will cater for the TUH catchment area.
