How to Stay Calm and Protect Your Mental Health

By Mary Dennehy

Earlier this month a consultant psychiatrist at Tallaght University Hospital approached a publishing house with an idea for a book that helped people to deal with the immense psychological strain of Covid-19.

Since then Dr Brendan Kelly and Merrion Press have worked together in record time to publish Coping with Coronavirus; How to Stay Calm and Protect your Mental Health.

This psycological toolkit is available now as an eBook for just €1 from Amazon, Google Play, Apple, Kobo and good eBook distributers.

Dr Kelly noticed that while there was plenty of good, practical advice about coronavirus, how to avoid it and limit its spread, there was nothing out there to help people to deal with the immense pyschological strain of these unprecedented times.

“As news of coronavirus broke, it was clear that panic was the only thing spreading faster than the virus” Dr Kelly said.

“Managing this anxiety is vital.

“When I sent the text of my eBook to the team at Merrion Press, they didn’t hesitate for a second.

“Everyone stayed in late. Everyone waived their fees.

“The eBook was produced in five days. I’ve never seen a team come together so quickly, so fully and so effectively.”

According to Merrion Press, the book gives people clear and practical advice on how to stay calm and protect their mental health.

“If you’re feeling overwhelmed and powerless, if you’re worried about your older relatives and friends, or how your children are coping, then we want this book to bring you some comfort”, Merrion Press said.

“To that end, we have priced the eBook at just €1, which is the lowest price allowed on eBook platforms.

“In addition, Dr Kelly’s author royalties will be donated to medical charities assisting with the global response to coronavirus.

“In a time when ordinary people and communities are showing the greatest leadership, this is our way of trying to help.

“An audio book is in production and due in the coming weeks.”

In Coping with Coronavirus, Dr Kelly provides practical tools to navigate these undertain days.

Dr Kelly is a consultant Psychiatrist at Tallaght University hospital and a Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin.

He is the author of several clinical and historical titles in the field of psychiatry.
