Inchicore Athletic set the pace in Leinster Senior Sunday
Inchicore Athletic currently top the league in the Leinster Senior Sunday division after seven games played they sit on a comfortable 17 points with five wins and two draws to their name.
Managed by Jake Donnelly the side impressed in their debut Leinster Senior Sunday campaign last year after being promoted the year previous and have continued to strengthen since.
Their most recent match up saw them take on St Patrick’s CYFC in the Charlie Cahill Cup where they managed to pick up a 2-0 victory with a strike from Callum Keane as well as an own goal boosting their tally.
With a dream start to the campaign many managers may be fearful that their players would begin to lose focus, Donnelly does not have that issue with the current Inchicore squad however.
“It would be easy [to lose focus], but thankfully I have a group that are hungry.
‘There is no ceiling for them and they can do whatever they want, If they keep working hard, it’s hard to not start thinking about going on to do great things but it is very early and we definitely aren’t getting ahead of ourselves.
‘We’ve only played a handful of games and there is some really good competition in the league.
‘Having seen nearly everyone now myself going out watching games, In terms of our group I’m sure they are ‘oh wow thinking that they are able to have a go at this’ which is what you want them to believe because if they don’t believe we have no chance but there is a long way to go.”
That competition that Donnelly spoke about includes the likes of Crumlin, St Mochtas, Wayside Celtic and Killester Donnycarney to name just a few.
Their next game is against Wayside Celtic who they take on this Friday away from home and Donnelly thinks highly of the opposition.
“We are at Wayside tomorrow night, we’re looking forward to it.
‘It’s a really tough test. I think they are going to be up there, they’ll be very close to the top of the league when it comes to the end of the season, I think they are strong so it’s going to be a hard test tomorrow.”
