Income from car-parking fines collected by council is €261,258

THE income from parking fines collected by South Dublin County Council last year totalled €261,258, and the highest number of fines was issued to motorists on Main Street in Lucan village.
According to recently released figures, 1,407 fines were issued to motorists on Lucan’s Main Street, while the location with the second-highest number of fines issued was Main Street in Rathfarnham, where 733 drivers were fined.

Liona O’Toole, an Independent councillor for Lucan, told The Echo: “Year after year, Lucan village seems to get the highest number of fines.
“The reason I give for this is the design of the village, and the fact that it has such a high footfall.
“Some businesses in the village suffer to an extent [as a result of the fines] because some people get caught out by the first half-an-hour free parking, despite signs around the village about it, so it puts some people off coming back to the village.”
Ms O’Toole added that there is an appeal process available to motorists who feel they have been wrongly fined.
A total of 7,983 fines was issued by the council last year at a number of locations around the county.
In Cookstown Way in Tallaght, 527 people received fines, 293 motorists who parked on Butterfield Avenue in Rathfarnham received fines, while 279 fines were issued to motorists who parked on Fourth Avenue in Cookstown Industrial Estate.
A total of 271 drivers who parked at Robinhood Road in Ballymount received fines, as did 256 motorists at Castle Crescent in Clondalkin.
A smaller proportion of motorists also received fines from the council at other locations around the county, including Whitestown Way in Tallaght, Floraville Avenue in Clondalkin, Kennelsfort Road Lower in Palmerstown, and the Naas Road.
