Irish international Áine supports former Debenhams workers

IRISH Women’s international footballer Áine O’Gorman was on hand to lend her support for former Debenhams workers at Tallaght Stadium.

The move is ahead of the upcoming release of the short film about the picket lines from the campaign ‘406 Days The Debenhams Picket Line’ by producer Fergus Dowd.

Following on from the Dublin International Film Festival in March where the film won three awards, 406 Days will go into cinemas nationwide on Friday, May 26.

The film has been put forward to the New York City Docs Festival and will also be shown in London and last week there was a special showing in Derry supported by Derry Trade Council.

IFCO has given the film an Educational Cert for its cinematic release, which will also include the QFT in Belfast.

On Saturday a group of Tallaght Debenhams workers met Áine O’Gorman at Tallaght Stadium.

Áine is supporting the project as her former colleague at Peamount United was on the picket line.

“I want to wish them the best in the fight for justice,” said Áine.

The film won Best Irish Documentary, ICCL Human Rights Award and the Audience Award at the Dublin International Film Festival in March.

“We will have a special screening with workers in Tallaght at 4pm in the Square Cinema on Saturday May 27, and a special Tallaght schools screening on Monday May 29 in the Square Cinema,” said Fergus.
