IT Tallaght lift Umbro Plate
AFTER just missing out on the CUFL Division One title following their loss to NUI Galway the week before, IT Tallaght’s men’s soccer team raised the Umbro Plate when they edged out Waterford IT in yesterday’s final in Limerick.
Indeed it was only an Jordan Andre goal in extra time that separated the two sides at the end.
Tallaght, who had played the semi final in the same competition only two days before, were focused and prepared going into the game.
Both teams were presented with chances to open the scoring in the first 20 minutes.
Tallaght dominated possession in the second period but a penalty was awarded to Waterford, who spurned the opportunity to take the lead with the spotkick crashing off the crossbar.
Tallaght continued to create chances with Jamie Mulhall going close while Waterford kept Tallaght keeper Darren Brennan on his toes.
Both sides went close in extra time, before a sublime pass from fullback Philip Akinbami, found Andre who slotted home.
Tallaght defended for the remainder of the match, managing to hold out for the win and the captain Jamie Mulhall proudly lifted the trophy for IT Tallaght.
