Jude’s U16s claim league crown
ST JUDE’S U16 camogie team were celebrating in Tymon Park at the weekend when they claimed the Division Two Camogie crown following their 2-7 to 2-4 victory over neighbours Faughs in a well-contested match.
Jude’s got off to a flying start, scoring a goal and a point before Faughs had a chance to settle into the match.
Judes forwards impressed early on with Sally MacShane, Orla Nerney, Orla Kehoe and Ella O’Keefe continuing to press the Faughs backs led by Caitlin Ryan and added another 1-5 to their scoreline before the break.
However, Faughs were not going to let Jude’s have it all their own way and came out after half time with a new energy and tested the Jude’s defence.
Jude’s were under pressure and Faughs began to claw back the deficit, scoring 2-3 to Jude’s 0-1 to leave the game hanging in the balance.
It was end-to-end play and both teams were giving it everything with good shots in from Faughs’ Helen Duignan who put Jude’s under pressure.
However, the Jude’s backs held firm with Laura Feerick, Aishling Kelly and Robin Winters standing out in the final stages.
Jude’s weathered the storm and won out by three points with Orla Keighran from St Jude’s awarded the Player of the Match by the referee.
