League title for Tower’s U15 hurlers

ROUND Tower U15 hurlers were celebrating on Sunday when they edged out St Brigid’s 3-12 to 3-11 to secure the Division Three crown in Russell Park with one match left to play.

In a tight encounter, Tower’s held off a brave comeback from Brigid’s to edge this contest with a Dan Ward free in injury time separating the teams at the finish.

The visitors had the better of the opening half exchanges and by the break were 2-5 to 0-5 in front at the break.

Goals in the opening half came from Johnny Egan and Ward was the difference between the sides to the break.

However, Brigid’s raised a gear in the second half and broke through for three goals to take the lead in the closing minutes.

But Tower’s held firm with Jack Reilly scoring the equalising point on the stroke of full time and this was followed up by a pointed free by Ward in the closing minutes.

Shay Lynam playing at full forward scored two vital points for Tower’s in the second half and the game hung in the melting point right up to the finish.

Full back and captain Oisin Ward put in a solid show at full back as did Eoghan Coy and Jack Reilly in midfield..
