Killeen motor group to develop Smurfit site

KILLEEN Motor Group has applied to continue its redevelopment of the former Smurfit Kappa warehouse site located on the Killeen Road.

The group was previously granted permission, back in 2015, for the partial demolition of the warehouse and a temporary change of use for the site as additional storage for new car consignments.

Its latest application, which was submitted on July 29, requests permission for the demolition and removal of an ESB substation and sheds along with the removal of cladding on the warehouse building.

Alterations to the existing warehouse are also included within the application to provide a service garage.

The overall area of the development is expected to be around 1,492 sq m and will include re-cladding to the warehouse, provision for a vehicular service entrance, a pre-NCT service entrance, a trade counter entrance, a parts-drop entrance and an emergency exit.

Internal alterations are also proposed, to provide configuration for the services garage workshop, associated storage areas, customer areas and ancillary office accommodation.

An additional floor area of 250 sq m is also proposed for offices and staff facilities, along with modifications to existing vehicular entrance arrangements.

Revised boundary treatments for the site are also included within the application, along with parking provision for the site.
The former Smurfit Kappa warehouse was a corrugated packaging plant and closed in 2007, with the loss of 55 jobs.
