Kilnamanagh and Kingswood playspace work to start in July

PLANS to develop a playspace in the Kingswood and Kilnamanagh communities continue to progress, as meetings between local residents and South Dublin County Council to gather feedback and choose suitable locations took place last week, reports Laura Lyne.
Representatives from South Dublin County Council met with residents in Kilnamanagh on Wednesday, March 30 and with residents in Kingswood last Monday, April 4 as part of the five-year playspace programme.
Under the programme, a playspace for Kingswood in 2016 and a playspace for the Parkhill Road area of Kilnamanagh for 2015 are to be built this year, with a budget of €65,000 for each playspace.
A playspace for the Treepark Road area of Kilnamanagh is also budgeted for €65,000 and is expected to be built in 2018.
A representative from the Kingswood Heights Residents Association told The Echo: “The meeting on the play space was very constructive and positive overall.
“It was well attended with about 30 people turning up. Most of the feedback was positive with everyone agreeing that a play space would be a great addition to the area.
“Some concerns were raised about the state of the tennis courts and the need for them to be cleaned up before a play space could be built beside them.
“People also asked that the play space be made wheelchair accessible and that it is set back from the road a suitable distance for little children’s safety.
“Prior to last nights meeting the council with the local Foroige club and the Residents Association and the Senior Infants classes in St Kilian’s got involved by drawing pictures of their ideal play area.”
The Echo understands that due to the response from residents in both Kilnamanagh and Kingswood, that the projects are expected to go to tender by the end of the month with a view to beginning construction works on the playspaces by July.
