Kilnamanagh girls shine in the SFAI Cup

KILNAMANAGH girls football teams showcased their prowess on the pitch last weekend, securing victories across various age groups in the prestigious FAI Cup, reports Rory Merriman.

At the helm of this success is Dayo Power, the head of girls’ football in Kilnamanagh and the manager of the Premiership U14 side.

In a thrilling third-round encounter, the U12 girls emerged victorious in a penalty shootout against formidable opponents Peamount United.

Goalkeeper Saoirse Johnson played a pivotal role in the team’s success, delivering exceptional saves during regular time and exhibiting a stellar performance in the decisive penalty shootout.

The U14 squads displayed their dominance against Peamount United with impressive scorelines of 1-0 and 4-2 in normal time.

Meanwhile, the Premiership U14 team outclassed Leicester Celtic with a resounding 5-0 victory in another FAI Cup fixture.

The success across multiple age groups is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the players and coaching staff.

Dayo Power expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “It’s been a very successful week for the club in general.

“What they’ve been doing in training over the last few months has accumulated greatly in the cup.”

He commended the girls for their achievements, emphasizing that they should be immensely proud of themselves.

Acknowledging the crucial role of the coaching staff, Power highlighted the positive impact of individuals such as U12 manager Brian Johnson, U11 manager Tony Halpin, and coaches Paul O’Reilly and Neil Dalton.

Their influence has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s success and the overall growth of the club.

Looking ahead, the future appears bright for Kilnamnagh girls, with the club expanding each year.

Last year, the U12 team clinched the All-Ireland title, setting a high standard for the upcoming age groups.

The achievements of local footballer Katie McCabe, who consistently performs in the Premier League and captains the women’s national team, serve as inspiration for the aspiring young players in Kilnamanagh.
