TALLAGHT man Scott Kinevane is back in the verge of lifting another Men’s National Senior Basketball Cup.

The 30-year-old point guard is enjoying a fantastic season with UCD Marian, co-captaining them to top spot in the Super League and into tomorrow night’s National Cup decider against Black Amber Templeogue in the National Basketball Arena.

It is sure to be an interesting night for Kinevane who played under current Templeogue coach Mark Keenan when at UL Eagles with whom he won the National Cup back in 2012.

Returning home from Limerick some three years ago, he played Division One with Eanna before opting to return to the top ranks of Irish men’s basketball with UCD.

“I talked with UCD coach Ioannis [Liapakis],” Kinevane told Echo.ie. “He’s very organised and professional and I felt that, if I was to go back playing at that level, I’d want there to be a good base of Irish players.

“We had a great pre-season and we set out our aim, which was to win the league and the cup.

“The age-profile of this team is very good. I think we have one lad there who’s 19 and the rest are between 26 and 32 so we have some great experience in this team.

“I played under Mark Keenan at UL and I won a National Senior Cup there in 2012 and lost in the final the following year

“We know that cup finals can be a one-in-a lifetime chance for some players so we’re just going to go out there, embrace it and have no regrets,” he said.

UCD have already twice beaten Templeogue this season on their way to top spot in the Super League where they are currently level on points with Garveys Tralee Warriors, but have played two games less.
