THE Laurels Cycle crew are closer to reaching their €1 million mark for children’s charities, after their annual Galway to Dublin cycle on April 5-7.
Over the last ten years, the crew has raised €945k for children’s charity CMRF Crumlin (Children’s Medical & Research Foundation).
Up to 180 people were involved in the crew’s Galway to Dublin cycle over the weekend.
Established in 2009 by Laurels bar manager Damien Long and head barman Denis McCarthy, the crew host two cycle events annually – Galway to Dublin in Spring and the Christmas Santa Cycle from Phoenix Park to Clondalkin Village.
“It went well, it was a great weekend, Saturday was windy and a bit challenging, but the sun was out on Sunday,” said Denis McCarthy.
“It shows the community spirit in Clondalkin, the focus is on the community coming together.”
Mr McCarthy said the crew are “aiming to break the €1 million mark this year.”
The Laurels Cycle crew will host an official cheque presentation for CMRF in September at the Laurels Pub in Clondalkin, once all sponsorship cards have been counted up.
The crew praised a “truly amazing effort once again by all those involved” in aid of CMRF.
