Leo Swan Lecture: The Hellfire Archaeological Dig
The Leo Swan Lecture takes place tonight in the county library at 7pm, and will be delivered by Neil Jackman of Abarta Heritage, who recently conducted the archaeological dig at the Hellfire Club.
The dig made some unbelievable discoveries over the course of four weeks, with a second prehistoric passage tomb uncovered midway through the excavation.
It is believed the tomb, similar to that of Newgrange, would have been a large circular type mound from the Neolithic period, which would date back to around 5,000 years ago.
Other notable finds included a 5,000 year old polished stone axe, which was described as an “unbelievably beautiful artefact” by the Abarta heritage team.
