Lidl lodge road entrance plans for Belgard pub site

LIDL’S plans to develop a pub on the former site of the Belgard Inn, alongside a new Lidl store, are beginning to take shape as the German discount retailer has lodged an application for planning permission for the construction of a vehicular entry and exit point for the sole use of pub patrons.
Planning permission was granted during the summer by South Dublin County Council for the development of a pub, which was part of an application lodged by Lidl also seeking permission for the construction of a Lidl concept store and two retail units at the old Belgard Road site.

As reported in The Echo last August, the pub is part of the overall development and will be built within the same time-frame.
The landmark Belgard Inn was demolished last June, and the pub’s last pint was served on March 18, 2018, after 43 years in the community.
Lidl lodged a planning application this month, seeking permission for the construction of a single point of vehicular entrance and exit from and onto the Old Belgard Road, for dedicated use by the public house.
Permission is being sought for the reconfiguration of the car park in the area of the permitted pub, so that there can be dedicated parking and a pedestrian walkway linking the pub to the wider permitted “neighbourhood centre”.
The retail giant has also asked the council for permission to allow the pub to operate normal trading hours on Monday to Thursday from 10.30am to 11.30pm, on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am to 12.30am, and on Sundays from 12.30pm to 11pm.
A decision on the application is due from South Dublin County Council by December 6.
