Lidl starts €11m upgrade of Whitestown Way store

LIDL has started construction on an €11m upgrade to its Whitestown Way store, an investment which will create four new jobs at the local branch.

Construction on the new store commenced on Monday, with plans in place to transform Lidl on Whitestown Way into a ‘modern, spacious building incorporating a range of new and exciting features’.

The store on Whitestown Way in Tallaght will in the coming months continue to operate during its normal opening hours while under construction.

However, it will close temporarily after Christmas to allow for the final phase of the refurbishment to be carried out – reopening in Spring 2022.

Lidl said that 100 jobs will be supported indirectly throughout the planning and development phases, with four new jobs with the retailer being created when the new store is launched.

The four new positions will bring the number of people employed at the Whitestown Way store to 26.

Fergus Torpey, Construction Project Manager at Lidl Ireland, said: “At Lidl, we don’t just bring our customers top quality produce at the best prices in the country, we also strive to provide our customers with the best shopping experience possible.

“And our new state-of-the-art store will offer our customers in Whitestown Way and its surrounding areas just that with its spacious design and market leading sustainability features throughout.

“Having recently announced a €550 million investment in our Irish operations over the next three years, we are very excited to be commencing construction on our latest development [this week], bringing our commitment a step closer to fruition.”

The team at Lidl believes that since the Whitestown Way store opened 13 years ago that it has become an ‘integral part of the retail fabric’ of the area through the creation of partnerships with local sports clubs, youth groups and charities.
