LIFFEY Sound 96.4FM won a couple of accolades at the CRAOL Féile Radio awards last month at the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel.

The Lucan radio station secured Gold in the ‘Commissioned Programmes’ category, and Gold in the ‘Creativity and Effectiveness during the pandemic’ category.

Volunteer Cian Sullivan’s documentary series ‘Here & Queer’ was a Gold winner in ‘Commissioned Programmes.’

The series was supported by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Sound & Vision scheme and explored how the LGBTQ experience living in Ireland compared to other countries.

The objective of the series was to give a voice to people from the LGBTQ community who are living in Ireland but originate from other countries. The judges said Cian’s documentary series scored highly in regard to community participation and it was an accomplished original series.

Meanwhile, Liffey Sound’s Technical Support Officer, Jon White and the numerous volunteers who recorded their shows from home during the pandemic, received Gold in the ‘Creativity and Effectiveness during the pandemic’ category.

“To top off the night, Liffey Sound received the standout award in the latter category also,” said Mairéad Cullen, Station Manager, Liffey Sound 96.4 FM.

“The judges said Liffey Sound staff and volunteers demonstrated innovative approaches to recording from home during the pandemic. Congratulations to the Liffey Sound award winners. I’m very proud of our staff and volunteers and for a small community radio station in Lucan, we continue to punch above our weight.”
