A LOCAL Lithuanian theatre group, called Alternatyva Alternatyvai, performed two well-attended shows in Tallaght Theatre last weekend.

The group, which has been based in Tallaght Theatre for 13 years, gave a lively performance of the American play ‘The Cemetery Club’, directed by Jurgita Cepkauske.

The manager of the group, Saggart resident Laima Prokofjevienė, said: “‘The Cemetery Club’ is a play about strong women who are not afraid to be themselves.

“The play, which had been lying on the shelf for a long time, became alive and finally met the audience.

“The play was performed by five actors: Inga Verne as Lucile, Laima Prokofjeviene as Ida, Inga Murauskaite as Doris, Jurgita Cepkauske as Mildreda, and Linas Vernys as Sam.

“The trio of actresses blended so well together, they kept the moments of comedy and the pace steady.

“It’s witty, sarcastic, and dry, and while there are some laugh out loud moments, most of the comedy comes from the natural delivery of the dialogue and impressive comedic timing.

“The fantastic performance displayed by the actors’ facial expressions made the audience smile and worry. The play is not very intense, but it does not allow the audience to relax.

“Long debates and arguments about visiting the cemetery were interrupted by an event that changed the lives of all the women involved.”

The engaging performance gripped the audience members, including the Lithuanian Ambassador to Ireland, Marijus Gudynas.

“The audience highly rated the performance of the cast,” added Laima.

One audience member, called Ingrida, remarked to Laima: “Thank you for the great evening, for the professionalism, love for the stage and people, openness and dedication.”

Buoyed by the success of their performances on Saturday and Sunday night, Alternatyva Alternatyvai are now planning to bring ‘The Cemetery Club’ to the Lithuanian community in Frankfurt, Germany.

Alternatyva Alternatyvai wanted to thank its sponsors and supporters, the Maldron Hotel, Dublino Duona, Rustic Goodies, Watermark Cards Limited, Dublin Tortai Irma’s Cakes, VP Flowers, L&G Portraits, JC Singing Studio, Anna’s Kitchen, Cakes by Renata, the Dublino Lithuanian Community, Vaida In, Fenton’s Immal Bar & Lounge, Glen of Immal Bar, and Lietuvis newspaper.
