Lucan pipped by Crokes in semis
Lucan Sarsfields were eliminated from the Dublin Senior One Hurling Championship after a defeat to Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday afternoon in the semi-final in Parnell Park.
It would be just a point separating the two sides as Crokes prevailed on the right end of a 0-20 to 0-19 scoreline.
Lucan started the game stronger in the opening half. Charlie Keher, Ben Coffey and Ciaran Dowling were all on target for Sarsfields early on in the opening period as they established a narrow lead.
Coffey was afforded a superb opportunity to put considerably distance between the teams after being awarded a penalty in the eighth minute but his penalty would veer wide of the goal.
While Crokes brought the scores back level, Lucan continued their push from further scores by John Bellew, Chris Crummey, Paul Crummey and Sean McClelland which gave Lucan the 0-11 to 0-07 advantage at the interval.
It looked as though that they would be able to see out the game from here, particularly when Crokes man Brian Sheehy was given his marching orders in the 39th minute.
Kilmacud had started the second half well however and had brought down that deficit back to the bare minimum with the two teams going tit for tat for the remainder of the game.
Lucan would be unable to make advantage of their extra man though looked to have the game won being ahead in the 59th minute by a point. A free from Oisin O’Rorke brought Crokes level again before further injury time scores from Eddie Gibbons and Ger Veale gave them the victory on the day.
