Lucy was passionate about ICA

TRIBUTES have been made to Lucy Gannon, a Lucan resident and former long-standing member of the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA).

Ms Gannon (pictured right) passed away on St Patrick’s Day at Marymount Care Centre, Westmanstown.

Friends and colleagues paid their respects to a woman who contributed greatly to her community.

Lucan ICA President Pauline Bligh said: “It was with great sadness that we were informed of the death of Lucy Gannon. Lucy was a long-standing member of ICA.

“She held many positions in Lucan Guild such as Timera, Arts Promoter and International Officer. As Timera this involved the promotion of the Irish culture and language and for the first time ever a Lucan Guild member got chosen for a Federation position.

Lucy served as Vice- President in Dublin Federation for a time. Lucy was always helpful and had a mind of information on all ICA matters. She was very passionate about what the ICA stood for and was a well respected member. We were very proud to have Lucy as a member in our Guild.”

Lucan Senior Citizens committee extended their sympathies to the family, remembering Lucy as a “kind and gentle lady who took a great interest in our club and was always very encouraging.”

A message on RIP.ie said Ms Gannon, of Sarsfield Park, Lucan, and formerly of Lissynealon, Mullagh, Clare, passed peacefully on March 17 at Marymount Care Centre, Westmanstown.

“Beloved wife of the late Michael. Sadly missed by her loving sister Gwendolen, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.”
