MACARI in Tallaght Village has been voted Ireland’s Best Chipper in a national takeaway awards programme, which celebrates the “stand out leaders” from the takeaway restaurant sector.

Based in Tallaght Village for the past 50 years, the takeaway was first opened by Rocco and Patsy Macari and is now run by their son Francesco.

Speaking with The Echo after their win, Francesco said that he believes the takeaway’s focus on fresh produce is what keeps bringing customers back.

“We cook our fish fresh when the customer comes in,” Francesco said.

“We also make all of our own burgers from mincemeat bought from a local butcher, they are homemade and are not cooked from frozen, and our chicken tenders are made with chicken breast.”

He added: “Winning the award has given us a feeling that we are doing something right.

“We have a lot of daily prep getting all of our produce ready, it’s a lot of extra work, but it is paying off.

“We’d like to say thank you to all of our customers for their support and for all of the positive feedback we get over the counter.”
