Mahoney signs off with a record-breaking display

ALAN Mahoney is taking a break from powerlifting and signed off with a superb performance at the WPU Powerlifting World Championships in Limerick this month.

Lining out in the Master Two (45/49 years) 110kg class, Mahoney weighed in at 108.8kg.

He squatted 252.5kg, bench pressed 152.5kg and deadlifted 260.5kg- all are new world records which he had held since the Irish National Championships that he contested back in April.

What’s more, his overall winning total was 665.5kg is a new PB and world record .

“I wasn’t at my strongest on the day, but happy overall with result” said Mahoney.

“I’m a lifetime drug-free athlete and proud to be so. I’m taking a few years break from powerlifting competitions to focus on my business and I am going to compete in strongman competitions in a year or two.

“I’m still going to train powerlifting which I have a passion for and, maybe in the future, I will coach powerlifting” he added.
