Man allegedly threatened to kill escort and her family

A MAN who allegedly threatened to kill an escort and her family has been refused bail at Tallaght District Court.

The court heard that the man was in a short-term relationship with the Tallaght-based woman.

Taking to the stand the man denied making any such threats and said that they had a close relationship, despite the woman securing a safety order against him earlier this year.

Gardai were called by the woman on October 1, who said the man was outside her building allegedly making threats to “kill her, kill her family and himself” and calling her a “bitch slut.”

The matter was brought to court for breach of the safety order and potential interference of a potential witness.

Taking to the stand, the woman, a Romanian national who has two young kids aged 6 and 4 in Romania, said she first met the man two years ago and that they were in a relationship for about two months.

“He started to be jealous, insult me, push me. A few months ago he bit me very bad. I am scared of him. When he become crazy you don’t know what he will do. He look like he have two personality. I think he have sick mind,” said the woman.

Defence solicitor Eddie O’Connor said that his client is going to say that you “work as an escort.”

“I can work whatever I want,” said the woman.

Taking to the stand the man denied making the threats, and said he called her on the day in question to ask what food she wanted from a shop.

“She said she is in fear, I picked her up from airport last week, and another time brought her mates to Athlone, this is my life we are talking about,” said the man.

“Two/three days ago when I slept with her she wasn’t in fear, there is cameras there. Last night I said I’m coming over, she is standing outside the Polish shop, then she said ‘I don’t want your fucking food stick it up your arse.’

“We went clubbing last week, we do everything together, why is she abusing the safety order? She has messed with my life sometimes I feel suicidal. Lies that I threatened her family. I bought jerseys for her kids. I was homeless for a few months, my family kicked me out. Now I live in a homeless shelter, its better but not great,” said the man.

Asked by Judge Patricia McNamara if he was still in contact with the woman despite the safety order, the man said “nearly everyday, she sends pics and I do same.”

The court heard the man, who lives in Cabra, is happy to stay away from the woman.

Judge McNamara acknowledged the difficulty in assessing if the threats were “real or not” and that the two seem to be in contact all the time despite the safety order.

“The fear that [the man] will interfere is a real possibility, therefore I refuse bail in the matter,” said Judge McNamara.

The man was remanded to appear at Cloverhill via video link on October 7.

Legal aid was assigned to Mr Eddie O’Connor.
