Man Arrested (40), Firearm and €20,000 Cannabis Seized in Ballyfermot

A man has been arrested following the seizure of a handgun and €20,000 worth of cannabis in Ballyfermot, Dublin.

Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) with the assistance of the Garda Armed Support Unit carried out the search operation and seized a handgun in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin on Wednesday 14 August.

A kilo of cannabis herb, worth an estimated €20,000 was also seized.

A garda statement released said: ‘The firearm will now be sent on to the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau to undergo analysis and the drugs seized will be sent to FSI (Forensic Science Ireland)’.

A man (40s) was arrested and is currently detained at a Garda Station in the DMR under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939/98.

Investigations are ongoing.
