Man arrested following seizure of €166,900 in suspected cannabis and €8,000 cash in Lucan

UPDATE: The man in his 20s, arrested in relation to the seizure of €166,900 cannabis herb in Lucan yesterday, Saturday 25th September 2021 has been charged. He is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning, Monday, September 27, 2021.

Gardai have arrested a man and seized €166,900 in suspected cannabis herb, and €8,000 in cash following searches in the Lucan area on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

The man, aged in his 20’s, was taken to Ronanstown Garda Stations where he is currently being detained.

Gardai on patrol in Lucan stopped a vehicle on Saturday morning at approximately 9.15am. During a search of the car a rucksack was found that contained cannabis herb estimated to be worth €6,900, €4,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

A further €160,000 in cannabis herb was located along with €4,000 in cash and other drug paraphernalia during a follow-up search at a nearby residence.

A statement released to The Echo by Gardai said: “Gardai on patrol in Lucan stopped a vehicle at approximately 9.15am.

“A rucksack was found which revealed cannabis herb estimated to be worth €6,900, €4,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

“A follow up search was carried out under warrant at a nearby residence pursuant to Section 26 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84.

“A further €160,000 in cannabis herb was located along with €4,000 in cash and other drug paraphernalia.

“The drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis.

“A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in connection with the search and he was taken to Ronanstown Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
