Man charged in relation to hijaking incidents

A MAN has been charged and is due to appear before the courts in connection with hijacking incidents in Clondalkin over the weekend.

According to a Garda statement issued, officers received reports shortly after 9pm on Saturday of a man attempting to hijack a car unsuccessfully at Grange Castle Road.

It is alleged that the man subsequently approached a second car, removed the owner and drove away from the scene.

“Following a managed containment operation involving local Garda units attached to the Clondalkin District and Armed Support Unit (ASU), the car was intercepted on the Katharine Tynan Road in Tallaght a short time later”, gardai said.

A man in his thirties was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in West Dublin.

On Sunday, gardai confirmed that the man had since been charged in relation to the car hijacking incidents and is expected to appear before Blanchardstown District Court on Monday, April 15.
