Mary Mercer Health Centre remains closed following burglary during Storm Emma

THE MARY Mercer Health Centre was forced to shut it doors to the public this week after substantial damage was caused during a burglary last weekend.

The centre has been closed for the past three days however, the HSE hopes to have it re-opened for tomorrow (Thursday).

The robbery is believed to have happened between 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, with a substantial amount of damage caused throughout the building – and a number of drug products stolen.

A spokesperson for the HSE told The Echo: “The HSE can confirm that The Mary Mercer Health Centre, Fortunestown Lane, was broken into over the weekend of Storm Emma.

“A substantial amount of damage was caused throughout the building. Although the building is now secure, it is currently not accessible to the public.”

According to the spokesperson, the HSE carried out “emergency repairs” yesterday and today, including thoroughly cleaning the building to “ensure it is a safe environment for the public and staff”.

It is hoped that the centre is ready to open to the public this Thursday, March 8.

While the Mary Mercer is closed, many services are being provided from the HSE Primary Care Centre in Tallaght Cross West, with Tusla also providing a service from Chamber House.

Enquiries are ongoing

Confirming the break-in to The Echo, a Garda spokesman said: “ An examination of the scene was carried out by local scenes of crime personnel and enquiries are ongoing.

“Full details of drug products taken during the raid are not currently available.”

The HSE has confirmed to The Echo that while the centre remains closed many services including the GPs and Public Health Nursing Services are operating from the HSE Primary Care Centre, Russell Court, Tallaght Cross West.
