Match of the Week: United are tops in Tallaght derby
A MINUTES silence was held before this UCFL Division 3B game in Ballymount Park, in honour of former league Chairman Barney Blood who died the previous Thursday, reports John Mooney.
When proceedings got underway there was always going to be one winner as United won the battle of the two Tallaght outfits, with a comfortable 6-0 win over their Town neighbours.
There was nothing really to shout about from Town as they are going through a transition period at the moment and, for all their hard work, they only really had two shots in anger over the 90 minutes.
Adam Wallace missed a golden opportunity when trailing 1-0 when he fired wide after a poor clearance from keeper Rian Wade, however, Wade redeemed himself with a flying save to deny Ryan Gannon just after United went 2-0 up.
No doubt about the star of the show as John Kelly netted a superb hat-trick on a day, when everything he touched turned to gold.
Leading 1-0 at the break through a Ismail Kabia strike, that slipped through the hands of Towns keeper Owen O’Duffy after 35 minutes, It could easily have been more.
But as soon as the second half started United went 2-0 in front, with a bullet header from Brian Robinson and this game was only going one way.
Kelly, who had been the dominant force all through the game, then took over with the first of his hat-trick five minutes later when he gathered the ball in the middle of the park, worked his way into the area and slotted home.
His second was a header, when he connected with a Darren Collins centre after he stooped to guide the ball beyond O’Duffy, while he saved the best till last with a brilliant lob from outside the area.
It was tough on the Town and, as the time ticked down, it got worse as United bagged their half dozen with their final goal of the morning through Jamie McEwan.
