Match of the Week: United prove too good for ROC

BENBULBIN United bagged their second win in a week when they welcomed ROC Celtic’s second string to Brickfield Park, and ran out 3-0 winners in this UCFL Division 3B clash on Saturday morning, reports John Mooney.

Six points from their last two games has eased the pressure on the side, as they slowly move away from the wrong end of the table.

For ROC it was an all too familiar result, losing the fifth of their six league encounters this season, but its not all doom and gloom.

All these lads need is a break, and maybe a little bit of experience thrown into the mix, as they are all of schoolboy age playing mostly amongst men, so, in time, hopefully it will get better.

They had their chances but United’s experience at the back kept them at bay, especially in the second half when they had the strong wind at their back.

The home side opened their account on 17 minutes when John Redmond set Ben Moore free down the right-hand side, Moore then sent in a centre that Gareth Kenny rose high to head home.

That lead was doubled eleven minutes later with a cracking free kick from Anka Ganbold, after Gary Delaney was taken down on the edge of the area.

It was a cushion they needed going into the second half, and facing the wind, as they knew ROC would throw everything forward in search of goals.

But they stood firm and the visitors only came close on only two occasions, when Owen Gavin saw his effort well saved by John Sheridan and Lee Dunne saw his goal bound shot cleared off the line.

But United always looked dangerous at the other end and as time ran down they netted a third, and a great one at that. Ben Moore did the spade work on the left-hand side and pinpointed his cross to Delaney, who brilliantly controlled the ball before slipping it home to round off the scoring.
