Matt the Rashers closes after 23 years in the food business

THE end of an era in Kimmage as the owners of famous eatery Matt the Rashers close their doors after 23 years of service.

A ‘go-to’ place for an affordable Irish breakfast, the Sundrive Road premises did a roaring trade pre-Covid times.

Business was always brisk, but earlier this summer, the owners announced their decision to retire and hand the reins of the premises over to somebody else.

Taking to their social media on Sunday, Matt the Rashers said: “It’s with heavy heart that we are reporting due to ‘sale agreed’, we have decided not to reopen tomorrow, August 9. Details of the new owners will be posted soon.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and customers who made Matt the Rashers such a success over the past 23 years.

“It has been a privilege to have served the community during this time and we hope the new owners can continue to provide hospitality and service in the future.”

Hundreds of residents responded to their social media post, devastated to lose what was a popular café/ restaurant in the community.

Matt the Rashers suggested in their social media posts that the new owners may decide to keep the name.

The premises had been closed since July 24 for builders holidays but did not re-open as planned on Monday due to the sale.
