McCabe is Gunning for cup glory with Arsenal
By Stephen Leonard
KATIE McCabe will be hoping she gets the chance to play on one of the greatest stages for women’s soccer when her Arsenal side take on holders Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.
The Tallaght woman signed for the London club back in December and saw them storm into the FA Cup decider after their 7-0 demolition of Sunderland.
They face a Chelsea side that came through a much tougher semi final phase when they edged out Manchester City 2-1 after extra time.
Saturday’s game will mark Arsenal’s 15th appearance in the cup showpiece which is expected to attract a record attendance this year.
They have raised the prize no less than 13 times, but ripping it from the holders will be no easy task.
Certainly McCabe will be hoping she will have a part to play on Saturday especially given that the team missed out on Champions League qualification after having to settle for a third place finish in the league.
One of the mainstays of Sue Ronan’s Ireland Women’s soccer squad after she made the step up to the senior ranks back in March of 2015, McCabe bagged her first international goal at this level earlier this year when she helped Ireland to a 1-1 draw with Italy at the Cyprus Cup.
