McCabe to undergo scan on injury after Arsenal’s CL win

KATIE McCabe proved to be hugely influential as Arsenal secured passage to the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final with a 2-1 win on aggregate over Bayern Munich, but not without injury concerns.

Kilnamanagh’s McCabe limped off the pitch with five-minutes left on the clock after the Gunners overcame an away defeat on aggregate to run out 2-0 winners in the home leg last night.

After succumbing a Lea Schuller goal in the first leg, Arsenal turned the tie around at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night through Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum.

Prior to her injury, McCabe set up what turned out to be the winning goal, with Blackstenius heading home Arsenal’s second after 26-minutes.

However, after initially leaving the pitch limping, McCabe returned on crutches with a protective boot on her left foot to celebrate the victory with her teammates.

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall said that McCabe would undergo a scan today, Thursday.

Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw will be anxiously awaiting the results of her captain’s scan in anticipation of the nation making its major tournament debut at the FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in July.

Earlier this month, McCabe was at the forefront of the action as Arsenal ended their four-year trophy drought to win the Continental Tyres League Cup.
