Located beside Costa at the Lidl complex since December 15, McCabes officially launched their new store on February 3.

“It has been great, we’ve got a lot of good feedback from customers, and the location is ideal, beside the Lidl carpark,” said Catherine Fahy, Store Manager and Supervising Pharmacist at McCabes, Tallaght.

The store is spacious enough to stock all the main products and then some.

“We have a large range of vitamins, and at the moment we are doing a promotion of buy one, get one half price,” said Ms Fahy.

“Another thing that stands out is our health checks. We offer cholesterol testing, blood-pressure, blood glucose and vitamin D testing, which can be the product of a lack of sunlight. The vitamin D test will let you know if you need more supplements.

“Until the end of February, we are offering customers the cholesterol test for half-price at €15, it usually costs €30. The blood pressure check is free, and the blood glucose (diabetes) costs €10.”

The cholesterol test consists of a small finger prick, and only takes a couple of minutes to receive results instore.

“Customers can make an appointment to get tests done, or request them at the store where we will try to accommodate them,” said Ms Fahy.

Most people who request blood pressure tests, are doing so on the back of a previous high readings, however, Fahy warns of ‘white coat syndrome” which can lead to higher readings.

“People can get nervous while they are waiting in a doctor’s surgery.”

For a comprehensive result, McCabe’s also offer a 24-hour blood pressure monitor – fitted to the wrist.

“It is not waterproof, so we try to schedule it for a customer to come in at 10am, after they have had a shower, and take it off at 10am the following day. We encourage people to do as much as you would do on a normal day for best results. It will monitor your blood levels when you are asleep and relaxed, and provides a report at the end so that your doctor can make the best assessment.”

McCabes Tallaght are currently offering 24-hour blood monitors to customers for €30 – half the regular price of €60.
