McHale’s looking to build 242 apartments on Broomhill Road

PLANS for the development of 242 apartments on Broomhill Road in Tallaght will be the subject of an upcoming pre-planning consultation.

The plans were submitted by Garyaron Homes, whose directors include motor rally champion Austin McHale and his sons Gareth and Aaron, this month.

Pre-planning consultations are held in advance of developers submitting planning applications for Strategic Housing Developments (SHDs).

A decision on the consultation is due from An Bord Pleanála by December 22.

According to South Dublin County Council’s Tallaght Local Area Plan 2020-2026, the overall area of Broomhill and Greenhills is to be “predominantly business with more mixed-use residential” uses.

The surrounding area is the subject of numerous large-scale developments, including the site of the former Gallahers cigarette factory on the Greenhills Road, where plans for a €110m residential development consisting of 502 apartments have been approved by An Bord Pleanála.

The former Cable and Wireless site on the corner of Airton Road and Belgard Road is set to house 328 apartments, across two apartment blocks, after developer Power Scaffolding Supplies Ltd was granted planning permission last year.

The Agneli Motors site on the Greenhills Road is the subject of a pre-planning consultation for the development of 241 build-to-rent apartments, which An Bord Pleanála has not yet reached a decision on.

The Tallaght District Heating Network, trading as Heatworks – Ireland’s first publicly owned, not-for-profit energy company, which will provide low carbon heat, sourced from an Amazon data centre on the Belgard Road to local community buildings – is also to be located nearby.
