McSweeney is impressed by his players’ focus
SHAMROCK Rovers Amputee Manager Stuart McSweeney has been blown away by the efforts of the entire Shamrock Rovers amputee squad since football in this country was put on hold.
Not only was the domestic league brought to a sudden halt, but the Hoops’ planned European trip to Poland in May to compete in the Champions League was also cancelled leaving the squad’s preparation plans up in the air.

However that has not stopped the squad remaining very active and using the power of technology to help maintain a seriously high standard of fitness for when it is safe to return to action.
"Firstly it is great that everyone is staying safe and what is important right now is to look after loved ones and family and follow the advice from the government” stressed McSweeney.
“But football is a family too, so it’s brilliant to catch up with the lads on our weekly zoom sessions.
“Just saying ‘hi’ and seeing the lads smile is massive, and the entire squad together apart in one place on zoom is fantastic.
“Each Tuesday and Thursday the lads work really hard on a circuit session that we have in place and it’s great physically for us.
“But mentally it’s so important too. That time we get together on zoom ensures we get to talk, share how our days are and have a laugh and pick each other up. It’s invaluable.”
What has impressed McSweeney most is the focus of the players despite the uncertainty surrounding the season and when there might be a return to competition.
“To return, it has got to be safe to do so and the squad knows that” stressed McSweeney.
“Despite the season being put on hold and our Champions League fixtures in Poland cancelled, the squad have remained focused on a return and just want to get back on the pitch no matter how long that takes” he said.
