Members of GAA Club receive Appreciation awards

FOR their contributions to their club and community over the course of 2020, 15 members of Thomas Davis GAA Club have been recognised as unsung heroes after being presented with Certificates of Appreciation, reports Hayden Moore.

Despite Tallaght Person of the Year not going ahead as normal, awards organiser Tallaght Community Council (TCC) have asked the community to continue recognising local heroes.

Through TCC's #OurHeroesYourChoice initiative, members of the community are being encouraged to recognise an unsung hero and present them with a Certificate of Appreciation.

Last weekend, at a ceremony at their clubhouse in Kiltipper, Thomas Davis made an extra effort to recognise those members who made an extra effort in 2020.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We carefully selected club members who have gone above and beyond to help their community over the last 11 months.

“On top of all the members who received individual awards is the general club community who have got behind all our charity fundraisers, supported each other through family bereavements, all the coaches who have provided a safe environment for kids to train and the large executive/sports committees in the club who have worked extremely hard to provide a safe environment in extraordinary times for all club members.

“So on behalf of Thomas Davis we’d like to say a BIG thank you to all who have contributed over the last year.”

For running a charity fundraiser in aid of frontline staff in Tallaght University Hospital, Jennifer Breene, Laura Kinsella Byrne and Leanne Kennedy were recognised as unsung heroes.

Joey Connelly, John Twamley and Laura O Rourke were also recognised for raising funds for local hospitals and homeless charities while Stephen Stewart and Jamie and Liam McDonnell were recognised for their involvement in providing schools with meals.

Aideen Devine, Jackie Blanchfield, Nico Crowley and Ciara McGuigan were acknowledged through the initiative for their work with club initiatives and fundraisers.

Also, the club’s academy coaches for the voluntary work, Stephen Hayden and the Thomas Davis Covid Officers were recognised for their assistance in ensuring games could continue safely throughout the pandemic.
