The St Patrick’s Day parade will once again march through Tallaght Village after a group of community volunteers, with support from South Dublin County Council, IT Tallaght and local business, revived the event – which was once an annual highlight in the area.

As part of the March 17 celebrations, organisers are inviting members of the community to share their memories and old photographs of Tallaght parades past through the event’s official Facebook page.
The revived parade will on March 17 leave the grounds of IT Tallaght at 1.30pm, move along the Old Blessington Road onto Main Street, Tallaght Village, before turning left onto the Greenhills Road and back into IT Tallaght.
The college campus will also be the location of a new family arts festival, which will boast plenty of St Patrick’s Day events for the whole family – including music, face painters, an inflatable disco dome and a treasure hunt.
A main stage will be set-up as part of the festival, with organisers seeking bands and singers to perform on the day.

Committee member Roderick Smyth told The Echo: “We have a stage and we need talented bands and singers to fill it, and we know Tallaght is full of talent!”
The committee are also looking for people with trucks to get in touch.

“We have an artist creating floats that need to be transported along the Parade route and we would like to put a band on Main Street, so need the back of a truck for them to perform on,” Roderick said.
“So there are many ways to help out here, from participating to lending us equipment for the day.”
