Memories Two: 14-year-old Sadhbh Keane’s debut single

A 14-year-old Clondalkin musician is releasing her debut single, titled ‘Memories Two’, is out now.

Coláiste Chillian pupil Sadhbh Keane wrote her first song at age ten, and commanded impressive crowds when she began busking on Grafton Street at age 11.

Over the course of the pandemic, she posted regular ‘Live with Sadhbh’ videos on Instagram and has honed her songwriting skills, transitioning from covers to performing her own original material.

Sadhbh lists Rathcoole musician Dermot Kennedy as a key influence, which filters through in ‘Memories Two’, a song that deftly chronicles the dissolution of a relationship.

Sadhbh’s dad, Caimin Keane, told The Echo: “‘Memories Two’ is a song about heartbreak. It’s around putting so much time into a relationship with somebody but it means nothing to them.

“It’s about getting over the break-up of a relationship, but it is influenced by Dermot Kennedy. He mentions nature a lot in his songs, and Sadhbh’s song talks about how the moon and stars aren’t shining as brightly for her anymore.”

While Sadhbh is also a talented sportswoman who plays for Round Towers GAA Club, the Dublin Lions and Leinster Squad basketball team, music is her central passion.

According to Caimin, his daughter gets inspiration for her songs by observing the people around her, and channeling these astute observations into her songs.

“I was really curious about where she got those ideas from, but it’s just about what she observes in other people in relationships. She’s very insightful,” he remarked.

The performance aspect of being a musician is something that has allowed Sadhbh to come out of her shell, particularly during regular performances at Áras Chronáin’s Troubadour night, organised by local folk musician Colm Gavin.

“Even when Sadhbh was a child, she just constantly took the microphone any time there was a microphone going and started singing,” said Caimin.

“At any family get-togethers or parties, she’d get up and start singing and entertaining.

“She’s a really quiet girl, but when it comes to music and performing, she comes alive – it just seems to be something that’s in her.”

‘Memories Two’ is out on all streaming services tomorrow, Friday, March 25, and will be followed by two more singles, ‘Less Than Lovers’ and ‘Main Character’ in the coming months.
