MEP faces ‘bog’ challenge to raise €1,500 for Saoirse

DUBLIN MEP Lynn Boylan got down and dirty for her 40th birthday by taking part in a gruelling 10K obstacle course through the Connemara bogs for Saoirse Women’s Refuge.

Instead of having a 40th birthday party, Ms Boylan, who grew up in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, took on the Turf Warrior Challenge last Saturday with six of her friends – who together raised €1,500 for the Tallaght-based refuge.

Speaking to The Echo after her muddy challenge, the Sinn Fein MEP said: “I decided to fundraise for Saoirse Women’s Refuge in Tallaght because I was horrified that despite the fact that over 120 families were helped by the refuge in the past year, almost 500 other families could not be accommodated.

“Despite six years of cuts to their funding and an increasing demand for their services Saoirse Women’s Refuge continue to do incredible work.

“So, as we approach Christmas, with so many children staying at the refuge I wanted to do what I could to help.”
