Momentum gathering for Peamount after win over Waves

PEAMOUNT United remain on track to successfully defend their National League crown after navigating their way past a tricky DLR Waves outfit to win out 2-1 in Greenogue on Tuesday night.

And James O’Callaghan’s team will be looking to earn another three points against Galway this Saturday, having dished out a 4-0 defeat to them back in May.

Lauryn O’Callaghan bagged her first goal of the season and it proved to be a most important one as the Peas edged past Waves.

After captain Aine O’Gorman broke the deadlock, the Waves found a way to restore parity once again.

Searching for a much-needed winner as the clock ticked down, Peamount switched the play out to O’Callaghan on the right flank, and she took on her player before unleashing a low and hard strike past the keeper and into the far corner.

Momentum appears to be swinging in United’s favour, having beaten Cork City 5-0 on the road last week as well.

Star Stephanie Roche showed her sheer brilliance once again, after breaking backing into the starting line, when she bagged two goals to help her team to that emphatic victory.

The wins keep Peamount on track to win their third successive Women’s National League title, but with 10 games remaining, now is not the time to flinch.
