Multiple cars damaged in alleged hit and run in Springfield

UPDATE

TWO people have been injured in a hit and run traffic collision in Springfield, Tallaght this afternoon.

The incident occurred when one vehicle struck a number of cars and the driver fled the scene. A driver and passenger received minor injuries and were taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car which hit the vehicles was later located hiding in a garden and has since been arrested and detained. Gardai say that investigations are still ongoing in relation to the incident.

The incident occurred in front of the shops on Maplewood Road in Springfield at 1.30pm today.

In a statement to The Echo, Gardaí said: “Gardaí attended the scene of a hit and run traffic collision that occurred this afternoon Saturday 15th May, 2021 at approximately 1.30p.m on Maplewood Road, Tallaght.

“One vehicle struck a number of vehicles and the driver fled the scene when the car came to a stop. A driver and passenger received minor injuries and were removed to Tallaght Hospital for treatment.

“The driver was later located hiding in a garden and has since been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations ongoing.”
