Murphy cards another win in hunt for Queen of Europe crown

Danielle Murphy 6 1773715810 n resizedIT WAS another remark-able weekend for Saggart’s Danielle Murphy as she scooped her third win in this year’s Queen of Europe Drift Champion-ship in Hungary.

Having already won the opening two rounds earlier in the year, she remains top of the table despite almost having to drop out after disaster struck on the opening day in practice.

An engine fire in her car, known as the ‘Green Monster’, meant Murphy had to rely on the goodwill of her fellow drivers, and even though the BMW she borrowed was a left-hand drive and had no turbo, it could not stop the former Queen of Europe Champ-ion from taking the win.

“A fellow competitor from France very kindly offered me his car to share with him,” she explained. “Because of my current Championship lead, if I did not make qualifying, I would drop points in the championship.

“The challenge to adapt to a different car alone is difficult, but to adapt to a BMW, non turbo and left-hand drive with only a couple of laps practise was beyond almost impossible.

“This really opened up my eyes to realise how much natural ability I have for driving, and I qualified third before winning the twin battles on the final day” she added.

The final round of the Queen of Europe Championship takes place in October in Slovakia, and although it will be a very competitive event, Murphy is in pole position to reclaim the crown she won back in 2013.
