SECONDARY SCHOOL students in Lucan have made a new music track and video which highlights environmental awareness.

The track “Change” was made by students at St Joseph’s College in Lucan as part of the Pure Music Environmental Training Programme.

ST JOSEPHS PURE MUSIC 1 Medium

Pure Music Environmental Training Programme is an environmental awareness initiative of the Pure (Protecting Uplands and Rural Environments) Project.

This two day environmental/music training programme introduces participants to important environmental issues that are related to The Pure Project, e.g., illegal dumping, litter, fly-tipping, recycling, pollution, environment, all through the medium of music.

Then with the guidance of the Pure Project, and in collaboration with professional musicians, Muso, participants learn about song writing, music composition and music production, culminating in the creation and recording of an original song.

The song, “Change”, also includes an accompanying music video documenting the students’ progression during the training programme, the concept development stages, lyric writing, rehearsals, performance, and recording session.

Ian Davis of Pure told The Echo: “Pure Music has been a great success and all credit is due to the students of St Joseph’s College in Lucan.

“They have created a really inspiring song in such a short space of time with a really important environmental message. Education and awareness is an important part of Pure, and Pure Music is the perfect type of project that provides teenagers with information on important environment issues, but more importantly, it gives the participants an opportunity to develop and explore their own ideas on environmental issues through music”.
