People of all ages turn up for National Walk

GRIFFEEN VALLEY Park was thronged with walkers and runners on Saturday for the Operation Transformation National Walk.

Approximately 330 participants from all over the county and beyond including Kildare turned out for the 5km walk.

The Mayor of South Dublin, Councillor Paul Gogarty officially started the walk, he not only started the walk but took part and finished it as well.

Thos McDermott from South Dublin County Sports Partnership told The Echo that they were very happy with the turnout.

He said: “The weather stayed dry and the rain which was forecast didn’t turn up. We were happy with the turnout. We think it may have been higher but for the weather forecast. It was great to see people of all ages getting out and walking or running the course.”

The course was 5km, two laps of the park.

During Operation Transformation there is a host of events on throughout the county.

St Finian’s GAA in Newcastle have a walk on Mondays at 7pm. It starts on January 22. The meeting point is St Finian’s National School.

The Glenview Park Walking Group have a walk on Mondays at 4pm. The meeting place is the shops in Glenview Park.

St Dominic’s Walking Group in Tallaght are hosting a walk from Monday to Friday at 7pm. The meeting point is St Dominic’s Church in Millbrook Lawns.

Tallaght AC are holding a couch to 5k programme on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm.

An Cosán in Jobstown, Tallaght, are holdling a walk daily at 1pm.

Thomas Davis GAA Club in Tallaght have a walk on Monday and Wednesdays at 7pm.

Over in the Tallaght Sports Complex, there are walks on Mondays and Thursdays at 11.15am and on Tuesdays at 7pm. The meeting point is the sports complex in Balrothery.

The Fettercairn Community Centre on the Fettercairn Road has a walk on Tuesdays at 9.30am.

Perrystown Community Centre on Limekiln Lane have an indoor fitwalk on Wednesdays at 10am.

Ballyboden St Enda’s GAA Club have walks on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm.

St Judes GAA Club in Templeogue have a walk on Tuesdays at 8.30pm.

Round Towers GAA Club have walks on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm. The meeting point is the clubhouse on Convent Road.

Lucan Operation Transformation have a walk on Mondays at 7pm at Lucan Harriers. There is a weigh-in at 6.30pm.

Waterstown Warriors in Palmerstown have a walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. The meeting point is Waterstown Park in Palmerstown.

Quarryvale Community Centre hosts an indoor fitwalk on Fridays at 11.15am in the community  centre.

Balgaddy Family Centre hosts a walk on Mondays at 9.30am at the centre in Balgaddy.

Supervalu in Rowlagh are holding a walk every Monday at 7pm. The meeting point is Supervalu on the Collinstown Road in Clondalkin.
