Neighbourhood Business award for Walk Enterprises
By Maurice Garvey
SOCIAL enterprise organisation Walk, have won the Dublin City Neighbourhood Business award for the second year in a row.
Walk (Walkinstown Green Social Enterprises) received the overall prize in the Business Category.
The organisation is a charity that provides services to people with intellectual disabilities in Walkinstown and the surrounding areas.
Supported by Dublin City Council, Walk has renovated a number of derelict buildings in Walkinstown Green into a multi-functional community resource facility with a number of social enterprises, including The Green Kitchen Café and The Green Garden Centre.
A multi-purpose training room plays host to a wide range of community activities, including yoga classes, mother and baby groups etc.
The Green Kitchen recently celebrated its two-year anniversary, and has proved to be a popular café destination.
After a complete restock and the appointment of a new manager, Walk’s Green Garden Centre re-opened its doors for business earlier this year.
The garden centre has a wide range of shrubs, bedding plants, seeds, plant food, compost, bark, weed-killers, and small gardening tools.
It also has a great selection of pots, bird tables, nesting boxes, and wooden planters made by the Dublin 12 Men’s Shed.
