New community cafe open in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD Youth and Community Centre opened their new café this week, which will provide a space for centre users to catch up over a cuppa.

The new community café, which has been in the works for over two years, officially opened on Tuesday, April 12.

Speaking about the new addition, centre manager Sandra Lambert told The Echo: “It will be a place in the community for centre users to come, have a coffee and a catch up and reach out.

“We got our new kitchen in October 2020 and the café has been in planning for over two years but faced some unforeseen delays, but we are delighted that it is open now.”

The café will be open Monday to Friday.

Monday to Wednesday the opening hours are 10am to 12pm, Thursday is 1pm to 4pm and Friday it is open 11am to 1pm.

“We have got great support from the community about the café, so a big thank you to everyone who made it possible,” Sandra added.

The community centre also hosted an Easter Party for families on Saturday, April 9, which had a huge turnout.

“It was a great event and we had 123 people buy tickets and turn out for it, which was phenomenal,” said Sandra.

“We had a raffle and some great prizes with help from a lot of local businesses.

“A lot of people volunteered to help out with the event, and also a huge thank you to all the staff for the hard work and preparation that went into the whole evening.”
